It's all about me and a contest

G'day all!

This is my Life, the Universe and Everything birthday.

Do you wanna see my main birthday present?

Ta-dum! Yep, we sold out. We now have a 2000 Golf GLS. It has a sunroof and A/C and all sorts of doo-dads. It even has:

(Just for Risa) Heated seats - cos we so need them in California! When I saw the buttons, I laughed and laughed cos I know Risa is jealous of Jessalu's heated seats in her Jeep.

(Pics of anything else will have to wait - it's been raining for hours and is now dark. It is a rare day when it doesn't rain on my birthday.)

I made me a heap of these for my birthday gathering yesterday (chocolate lamingtons and drop dead gorgeous pink/jelly lamingtons - YUM! I can see I will get fat eating pink lamingtons). Many thanks to those who showed and for the rest of you, where were you?

I got me a haircut yesterday. First style cut in about 8 years. Here's the before:

And two afters:

See, it's much shorter! CelticCaston Kelly encouraged me and I've been daydreaming for weeks about getting a cut - voila! Next I want some whack colour in it too. The colour you see is natural. I haven't had colour for 5 years (except the green locks for my wedding four years ago).

I went for a little drive in the Santa Cruz mountains and have pics of fog and moss. It started getting pretty yucky so I came home again and did some CLEANING! On my birthday! (Oh, am I still on Oz time for Blogger? Birthday is the 3rd, not the 4th.)

Now I am waiting for DH to cook me dinner. I am hungry and he is fiddling with a couple of pics I took today. Yes they are funky pics but I Want My Birthday Dinner! If I have to cook, it will only be for me not him!

Given that this is my Life, The Universe and Everything Birthday, I want you to tell me
a) what on earth I am talking about (context), and
b) your favourite quote (whether from book(s), TV, radio or movie).

Comment by Saturday 8pm PST (about 3pm Sunday Oz EST) to be in the draw for a groovy prize to be announced!

PS. If you couldn't already guess who I want to win the US election? I'm with my countrypeople.... here and here and here and the rest of the world.... Please give me a nice belated present this time, America!

  1. Happy Birthday!!!! Did you get a towel as well? (yes, yes, more Hitchhiker's Guide references...)
    I guess that answers a.

And my favorite quote has got to be
    "Go ahead, make my day"

Do have a great day and I hope that the election turns out well also!!!

  2. What an exellent birthday present!!
Seat warmers though? Most amusing. Love the pink jelly cakes, I can't have chocolate so they are next to perfect. Good haircut. I am afraid of colours. I have some once a year: trepidatiously!

  3. Happy Birthday!!!!!!!Loud from Aussie!!!!!Love that car, heated seat? it must get cold there!!

  4. Glad to hear you headed out to Santa Cruz.

Yeah... I forgot to tell you about the "bun warmers"...LOL

    Nice trick...kinda accidentally turn on the passenger one and see how long it takes them to notice! (-;

Happy Driving and Happy Birthday, again!

  5. Oh... and I can't wait to see the haircut in person!

  6. Happy Birthday Hot Mama!!!!
    Your hair looks great!!!
Love the golf, and we need a recipe for lamingtons, i remember having them at home but I don't remember what they taste like.

  7. Happy Birthday!

Risa is pretty jealous of my seat warmers, isn't she. hehehe ;op

Did you need a Babel Fish when you first moved here (to help figure out what the hell all us yanks were talking about, hehe)? (that answers question a, but you already knew that I'd know that) and my 2nd answer isn't printable here - can I say that my favorite quote is pretty much any time Silent Bob talks in 'Jay and Silent Bob'? ;o)

  8. I hope you had a nice birthday (cleaning aside!). Your hair looks nice too.

Your Life, the universe, and everything quote is from the marvellous Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. I listened to it when it first appeared on Radio 4...must have been in high school...we all loved it.

I'm not sure I have a favourite quote - probably currently most used is from the Wonderpets..."What's going to work....Teamwork"!

  9. Happy Birthday! Fab new haircut!!

  10. Happy happy birthday Lynne!!

Wow what a gifty! And cute cut too!

  11. Happy Birthday!! Love the haircut. Your car is good. I love heated seats :) I don't need them here but I love them.

  12. Happy Birthday! You look super :) I love your hair cut!

  13. Happy Birthday!

Sure, rub it in about the seat warmers. Someday I'll have some myself ;)

  14. Sounds like Hitchhiker's Guide - I read it a long time ago. My oldest son read "The Salmon of Doubt" and turned into an atheist.

I think my favorite quote is a lengthy bit from T.H. White's "The Once and Future King". Here is how it starts:

“The best thing for being sad,” replied Merlyn, beginning to puff and blow, “is to learn something. That is the only thing that never fails. You may grow old and trembling in your anatomies, you may lie awake at night listening to the disorder of your veins, you may miss your only love, you may see the world about you devastated by evil lunatics, or know your honour trampled in the sewers of baser minds. There is only one thing for it then - to learn.

There is quite a bit more - I could e-mail it if you are interested. I just love it and love being inspired to learn!

  15. Thanks, y'all, for the birthday wishes and for contest entries!
(Someone forgot her manners but better late than never...)
Alas I didn't get a towel for my birthday.
