Blogiversary the Third!

G'day all!

Holy cow, it is my third blogiversary! Wow, time flies when you are having fun :-) And boy has the blogosphere changed since I started blogging - there are so many people to meet out there these days.

This means it is time for a competition! Leave a comment telling me about why you started blogging (and your blog and ravelry names if I don't already know you) by midnight on the 24th of August (wherever you live) and I'll put you in the draw for something nice :-) How about some self-patterning sock yarn in purple, burgundy and a hint of olive? (I dyed it myself :-) There's enough for a plainish pair of socks for up to size 11 feet. It looks something between these two samples - these colours are really hard to capture accurately.

Or Aussies can choose 100g of yarn from my Yarnivorous yarns website. Yep those yarns are still for sale and I have to put some more up now that I have found the pics I took over two months ago. Hooray for finding pics!

So drop me a line by Friday telling me why you started blogging and you'll go in the random draw.

anon!

  1. Oh I'm first!!

    Happy Blogiversary! Many happy returns!!

Hmmm, I started blogging to "join" this community. I found blogs very VERY early (like almost immediately) after learning to knit at Thanksgiving 2004 and I started lurking and commenting. I quickly realized what an incredible information and inspiration source this was. Before long, I wanted to share my stuff and contribute to the information being out "out there" instead of being on the sidelines. I started right up in Typepad, got fully set up with Ecto, and never looked back!

  5. HI!
I am dropping by to tell you that you can subscribe to Yarn Magazine via their website and also you can get the current issue from Mandie at "Ewe Give Me the Knits!" (www.ewegivemetheknits.com) and she will set you up in no time flat- as well as you can have a peek around at her store if you want to see some amazing fibre. :)
    While I am here-
    HAPPY 3rd Blogiversary to you-
the reason I started my blog was because I started spinning and had so much I wanted to share with others! Also to try to keep in touch more readily with my family and friends in the USA and Australia. :) I love writing mine- but also love finding new ones to read and be inspired ( and it seems I always am!)-like yours via the Yarn Magazine Blog.
My blog is called "Ramblings,Ravings, and Rovings"- and I think there are more rovings than anything else! LOL! ( You should be able to click on it after clicking on my name above.)
I hope you get this latest copy of Yarn- and the subscription- it's always nice to keep in touch with "home". :)
    Take care!

  8. Happy Blogiversary!

It is a bit strange but you'd disappeared completely from my bloglines - loads to catch up on now. Sorry - I wasn't deliberately being quiet.

I suppose I started blogging because I liked the idea of keeping a diary again and meeting new people with similar interests.

I began my blog to keep the "crazy" down. And maybe also to not drive the guys I was living with at the time up the walls about my knitting, as well as the aforementioned crazy. :)

    I'm over at tactlesswonder.blogspot.com

  11. Happy Blogiversary! I started blogging because I didn't know any obsessed knitters in person. Now I've met many online, and a nice few in person.

I'm knittingunderway.blogspot.com, and knittingunderway on ravelry.

  13. Happy 3rd Blogiversary, Lynne!!

I started blogging because it just swept me away... it looked like so much fun, and like bloggers had so much fun and such a connection... I just had to do it. I think I signed on with Typepad within a week of reading my first blog (when I finally figured out that it WAS a blog).

I started blogging when a friend started blogging so we could learn together. She no longer blogs, but I couldn't do without my blogs and all of my friends' blogs!

  15. Happy Blogiversary! Wow-three years! I started blogging just last September, encouraged by a friend juju (who is now 'bad juju', she has moved across the country and hasn't blogged since!). I just dove in, knowing not much, and sorry to be on livejournal after a bit-now I'm on wordpress, still a few small kinks to work on, learning lots, 'meeting' lots of interesting knitters on-line and a few in person. My first post was about too much stash and the critters I found in the yarn I found at the goodwill. And then on and on about wips, fos, my dogs, and whatever else seems good to blather on about!

Happy Blogiversary! I hope you have many more. I started blogging mostly out of curiousity. I had heard about blogs and I had seen a few knitting and spinning blogs. I decided I would check it out by starting one of my own, and I stuck with it. I found I enjoyed keeping an online journal.

  17. Happy Blogiversary! I've only been blogging for a year. I started for two reasons - to keep track of my projects, and to have a blogger ID for leaving comments and questions on OTHER people's blogs!

  19. Happy blogiversary! I started blogging because I wanted my co-blogger to start too, and I had a ton of finished things to take photos of. And now we just keep on egging each other on with projects. It's pretty cool. I'm at http://yarnfloozies.blogspot.com, and my ravelry id is "wenat". See you there!

I started blogged because I am a knitter among many non crafty people in my life. Also, I kept a journal when I was younger.
This was my way of bragging, venting, and keeping a journal all in one.
I have meant so many wonderful people in the past 3 years.

At first I had no interest in blogging, but after I met Rachael of Yarnagogo in person and realized that a number of my other friends were blogging, I figured that I'd met so many cool people through their blogs, and maybe if I started a blog cool people would meet me through it. And they have!

  30. Happy blog-iversary! I honestly started blogging as my love for knitting/spinning grew. We moved to a new area and i have not had a chance to really make many girlfriends, let alone good friends! ( a few at work but not like we go out and do things, have similar hobbies, etc) So blogging helps me socially i guess! Sounds bad but not...really! Lol *smile!

  31. Happy Blogiversary! As it happens, I was already reading knitblogs and composing entries in my head ("if I had a blog, I'd write about...."). But the impetus was that a friend who happens to be a priest was talking about trying to start learning about technology, and I said, "You need a blog!" He then said he'd have me over for dinner so I could explain how all this worked. I decided to try blogging just to see what it was like, so I could better inform him. And Rhonda was the final impetus - she suggested it and I did it. 8 months later and I'm still blogging - but the friend didn't ever have me over to hear about how it works!

  33. I started blogging because I was nagged into it by my co-blogger (allergicmom). She uses my stash as an example to her hubby that having lots of yarn is normal. I blog at http://yarnfloozies.blogspot.com and I'm yarnfloozy on Ravelry.

I started blogging so I could have contests and give away extra sock yarn. That way I can go buy more sock yarn without guilt. ;)

  35. Congratulations! Until 2 years ago I'd never even heard of a blog. But then the secretary at my daughters' school (a knitter) tracked me down with her blog address and I started my own that very day. It's nice to have a place to validate my hobby and sometimes just to rant or vent as needed.

    My blog address is:
    www.heideho.wordpress.com
my Ravelry account (which I've not entered much into yet) name is
    Heideho

  36. I started blogging as a way to share photos of our baby with the faraway family. I had no idea that it would blossom into such a different world so quickly. Validating knitting as a craft, meeting new people around the world, complaining about the same piddly little things and realizing that we're not all that different after all. So cool.

I'm Catherine of yogurtandgranola.blogspot.com, yogurtandgranola on Ravelry.

Congrats on three years of blogging! Awesome! Hope you have many more years of knitting and friendships!

I started blogging three or four years ago to clear my head; it evolved into more of a knitting blog as I rekindled my dormant love affair with knitting. Now it's both. And I've met so many incredible friends through it; I'm glad I did!

My blog is http://lorindarants.wordpress.com and SADLY, I don't have a Ravelry name yet.

    Happy Blgiversary!

I started my blog to get my knitting out there for others to see. Not many people I knew at the time was into knitting so I thought it was a great way to get out there and get others seeing my knitting, to get hints and tips and the sort.

Hm. I decided to toss in a couple of cheap bamboo needles and some Lion Brand homespun yarn in my luggage when I left for my externship in D.C. Figured I would need to do something in the evenings. Silly me- thought it would take me 4 months to knit a scarf. :) Then I taught a friend (who was nice to let me stay with her for four months!) how to knit. She started a knitblog so of course I needed to start one too- so we can show off our projects to each other- 6 states away.

    Happy Blogiversary!

I started blogging in the hopes that putting my craft stuff "out there" would keep me motivated to finish stuff. So far, it's working well. I also unintentionally fell down a rabbit hole filled with new people, techniques, and inspiration. But, that's good, too. :)

    I'm Stacy on Ravelry.

  41. Happy Blogiversary!

I started blogging as a way to keep track of my projects. A great side effect as been that I have more finished projects and less things shoved into bags in the closet.

Of course the down side has been that now I read a ton of blogs and find more projects I'd like to work on. Everyone else's creations inspire me.

  42. Happy Blogidiversary to you! I was a knit blog lurker for a long time, but took a long time to start my own because I didn't think anyone would want to see my lame knitting! As it turned out, I finally dove in with my own blog and it's been great fun! My knitting is still a little lame, but I have such fun getting to write silly things with no editor!

    My blog is knottykittyknits.blogspot.com.
    On Ravelry, I'm 3minions.

    Happy #3!
I started blogging because I was inspired by Crazy Aunt Purl (Laurie Perry). I admit there is more ranting than knitting, but every so often I mix in some fiber with my flakes. I love writing, and blogging is such a great outlet, even if I only have five faithful readers... LOL
I'm not on Ravelry yet. My blog is linked below.

    Happy-Happy-Happy #3!

I started blogging because I was inspired by Laurie Perry, a.k.a. Crazy Aunt Purl. Blogging started as practice writing the humorous essays I love, and I enjoy and making my five faithful readers laugh. You probably wouldn't call it a knitblog, but every so often I do mix some fiber in with my flakes.
I'm not on ravelry... yet. My blog addy, "mouseyblog", is linked thru my name above.

I started blogging because I was inspired to by your blog! Okay, there were other blogs inspiring me, too. But yours was one of the first ones I regularly visited.

  47. I started Blogging mainly because I'd moved 2 hours away from family and friends. Invariably I'd get asked "so what've you been up to since I talked to you last?" and I'd think to myself "Buggered if I know, but I've been bloody busy doing it"
Blogging seemed like a good way to keep in touch, to chronicle my projects, and evolved into being part of a community with the bonus of a whole bunch of new friends both IRL and OL.

    Congratulations, Lynne.

Please don't enter me in the drawing, as I have no need of sock yarn (!) but I will tell you this: My Ravelry name is jessiebird and I started blogging after I stumbled onto my first knitting blog (Too Much Wool) in a search for help with a Shetland fleece. Reading Cassiana's blog, I linked to all kinds of knitting related things and other blogs and I figured a blog of my own might help me get more knitting done.

I had no idea I would end up blogging more about turkeys and goats and peacocks than about knitting and spinning.

    These things happen.

  50. Happy Blogiversary! Woot to three years!

I started blogging in hopes of sharing what I was working on and, since I generally "design as I go", I figured it might be nice to share some of the design parts (still working on that...)

Oh, and since you asked, I'm sheepspyjamas on Ravelry, and sheepspyjamas.blogspot on my own (though admittedly I've been quite lax with my blogging schedule lately...)

  51. Happy Blogiversary!

    I started to blog
when I restarted knitting just this year -
    to track my progress,
to join and share in the blogging fun,
to feel part of the world-wide knitting community
and to have a place where I could talk about knitting without boring the pants off my nearest and dearest.

My biggest dilemma is time - I have time to knit, or time to blog, but, ah, finding time for both! (who needs sleep!)

Let's see. I started blogging for several reasons. To show my projects and join KALs; to leave comments on other blogs; to clear my head; and to connect with other knitters. Every blogger seemed so nice.
