G'day all! The day dawned fair on Friday 21st July. The crescent moon was riding high into the sky So fair was the growing dawn that after I took this picture as I left home, I found my car was totally covered in frost! Some of you will laugh but that just doesn't happen much here, and all I knew to do was pour cold water on it to get the car to the point where I could see out the windscreen and the wing mirrors. It delayed my departure by 10 minutes as I de-iced 8-) (As I sit here typing this, big V8s are burning around the local raceway. We are less than a kilometre from it and boy do those cars make a racket! This is only a warm up and test - the track is likely to be a bit slippery today as we keep having little showers of rain so I'd guess they are testing tyres along with engine, etc, tweaks. Peeve has a pic of me I'm hanging onto some of my new woolly stash, and that is the stash that came home in Peeve's car. I haven't picked it up yet. But first really important stuff - am I not evil? Over the last week, despite this being the time of year when the weather should be at its worst, we've had a few nice days, and a couple of shockers. Some of the plants have decided it is spring. A number of houses in the area have white magnolias which are flowering. I've even seen some pink magnolias flowering. The ash trees are putting out flowers. Cough, gag. Blasted wind pollinated plants. No pics of those - I am freaky enough taking pics in my own yard and standing out in the road taking pics of the sunsets without taking detailed shots of other peoples' plants. G'day all! It has been a totally superb day today. Sunny and almost warm! The sun makes a big difference in warmth I've decided. No sun = gloomy and yucky, sun = bright and happy! Today I woke up at 6:45am to the sounds of one of the cats wailing to be let out. It is easier to let her out than have her scratch the carpet and wail and then go pee/poo somewhere inside (no we don't have a litter tray cos the cats get plenty o' outdoor action, so to speak). Then I had a great and totally wonderful realisation. I've been worrying about how to pay for my bendi purchases. I know I will buy too much. It is just the way things are. This year I will likely buy some fleeces. I'm totally into washing fleece. I don't enjoy processing the fibre so much after that (even flicking it can be a pain, literally, in either the hand, fingers,thumb, thigh or face if I am particularly uncoordinated with the dog slicker. No we don't have a dog but the slickers are good...

G'day all! Weelll, well, well. It seems that now that I am no longer a tortured soul, the comments disappear! Or maybe I am the boringest blogger ever. Or maybe bloglines hasn't updated. Blogger had pics down earlier today (5pm PST - gosh thanks for that indication of the time, dudes, should I log everything here as EST and see if that stuffs you up cos you have NO IDEA what EST means? Yes, PST means pacific standard? time but what UMT is that?) and typepad fell over and died bigtime - noone's blog would load... Yesterday was a very big day. I loaded the trailer with garden refuse (green waste though it was pretty brown) and took it off to the transfer station and brought back a load of mulch which I unloaded pretty much by myself (one wheelbarrow full from Nathan). That's a cubic metre of mulch moved. Then I reloaded the trailer. ALL BY MYSELF. Before lunch. Lunch was late - 2:30, at least for me. Someone else "is working full time this week" and ...

G'day all! Last week, last Friday to be precise, Baudelaire went to Monash Uni. At first Bau sock was stuck in a nasty dark bag, but eventually he made a triumphant appearance in a Cootamundra wattle! You know you are in Australia when the wattles are flowering in July and a ruddy great big eucalypt (gum tree) is in the background. It is a pity that the flowering only lasts a week or two for this sort of wattle, but there are about 800 other species that can take over. Bau sock visited an apple tree that is supposedly a scion of the tree that dropped the apple on Sir Isaac Newton's head. And a banksia , which obligingly offered up two spikes of flowers. He even found a flowering peach or cherry in which to lurk! I've never seen these flowering so early. The Cootamundra wattles(aka weedy wattles) are bang on time but not the flowering cherries/etc. It briefly hung out in the tree where so many of my friends hung out (literally) in our undergrad days. That is TWENTY YEAR...

G'day all! In a late night rush on Saturday, I finished the first Baudelaire sock: Da-dum! Then I moved on to the next sock - anyone guess what it is? It is in Lorna's Laces "childs play" colourway. I've now moved past the short row heel whilst watching the most recent David Rabbitborough thing - whatever planet it is. Lovely pics in it. Lovely views. Nathan has promised that we will some day go flying through fabulous mountain ranges and see those sights. Plus I set up and cast on for another sock, but no pics yet cos it was around midnight last night when I did this. I've noticed that now that I don't have to crawl out of bed at 6:30am, I am tending to stay up until midnight or 1 am. Back to my old night owl ways. I have to hook back my going to bed time though cos it is really starting to get wearing - some days I should be in bed by 10 but I just keep on going. G'day all! What a dreary day we had yesterday - a proper Melbourne winter's day. It rained most of the day, which we depserately needed. Until yesterday we had had only 2mm of rain for the whole of this winter's month! And about 30mm for the whole of winter! We average about 100mm for June and July (interestingly enough, a place that we think has a warmer, nicer winter, being Perth in Western Australia, gets well over 300mm of rain for the same time). It's been a pathetic snow season so far - Lake Mountain, a low level "resort" where we've been cross country skiing at this same time of year in past years , has no snow whatsoever at present (I downloaded a picture it doesn't load properly).
