One mingy sleep to go!

G'day all! I should be in bed in 10 minutes and getting to sleep so that when I wake up at 6am I am fresh as a daisy, well not totally asleep. If I am asleep by 10:30 I will be lucky, but it will be as long a sleep as I've been having recently.... 8 hours has me cherry ripe but 7.5 is ok too. Again no pics but instead some observations. Do you have a particularly vicious knife in your kitchen? A knife that you have to be extra extra careful with because it seems especially keen (boom boom) to taste your blood? Our most dangerous knife is one of our smallest. It is razor sharp and loves to taste human flesh. It has been known to slice through kitchen sponges when it is being washed just so it can make me bleed. I call it Fang or sometimes Sting (since it is very hobbitish although I've never seen it glowing blue but then again I've never seen an orc in the flesh either). Maybe I should call it demonspawn for its bloodthirsty habits or some such. Well, my socks...

Two sleeps!

G'day all! I've reverted to childhood. Remember how Christmas used to take for ever to come, unlike now when you are an adult (of some form) and Christmas hits you like a steam train, walloping you between the eyes before you even notice it was getting close. Well, today dragged like Christmas was coming. Bendi Bendi Bendi! Bendi! Even if going to Bendi means getting up at 6am on a sleep in day, like getting up earlier than normal! Bendi Bendi Bendi! I swear that time slowed down massively between 9:45 and 9:52 in particular this morning - two half hour tasks took me 2 minutes and 3 minutes respectively. K's DH is driving me, K and A2 to Bendi. Poor D. A car full of wool crazed women all hyped on lack of breakfast and wool fever. I have new Blundstone boots which should keep my feet nice and dry, I have a raincoat, I have winter woollies to put on (trust me I'll need them out of the car), I have thrummed mittens (which I still do not have a picture of....) an...

Three sleeps to go!

G'day all! Three sleeps to what? The Bendigo Wool Show ! THE premier woolly event in Australia! The BIG one! I am so excited! This is our Maryland, only not as big. This is our Black Sheep Gathering. This is our biggest fibre event for the whole year. It is going to be stinking cold - prolly around 10 degrees and if we are really lucky we might get a scattering of snow and definately lots of rain and mud. Sigh. Ah well, those thrummed mittens will come in handy! Man, it is amazing how many hits you get when a Big Name Blogger (aka Crazy Aunt Purl ) links to your blog. Note how the number of hits tapers off. And not one extra comment! Ha! Just cos my blog has been VERY boring recently! So what is a key lime? Does it look like this? D'oh! That is a lime key! Heh. One of the guys on the other side of the floor at work is being harrassed by an american debt collection agency. They are looking for a woman called Pauline Crosara (name changed to protect the possibly i...

I'm back and something rather scary

G'day all! I survived Brisvegas. I even managed not to melt in the office that averaged between 26-28 degrees.... Feeling a bit tired so I'll talk more tomorrow night (I hope!). For the nonce, here is a very scary bear .... (Mental note to self - no red eyes and mouths on teddy bears, ok?) anon!

Away away!

G'day all! No pics again today! Why? Cos it was miserable and gray here today - perfect for me to wear my newly finished thrummed mittens! N ot too good for pictures. Top temp was only 10 degrees. It was unpleasantly cold in our loungeroom as we watched Dr Who, the new Dr Who. I was spinning and my fingies were quite cold thank you waether gods! And the one that made something die in our central heating.... I showed the spun silk and the thrummed mittens to Marta (who sourced my wheel) and she thought they wer both very nice and I should sell thrummed mittens, maybe felt/full them a little first. But who would pay me a bucketload for brightly coloured handspun thrummed mittens? Apart from a few desperate Newfies ;-) Note that I have turned my political side off again. It isn't very strong anyway. Pam raised a good point about how the USA is expected to go in and help out with problems. I am going to make no further comments. Tomorrow I hop on a plane and fly off to...

Aftermath

G'day all! I am about to cast off the thumb of the second thrummed mitten. Hooray! It would've been done much earlier if I hadn't broken one of the (pink plastic) DPNs when it got hooked in the gladwrap around my lunch.... Hooray for warm thrummed mittens! My friends think they are bizarre and then they put their hands inside and their faces light up with pleasure :-) No pics again. I so bad. Maybe I have a pic ready to go in my directory that I can pop in. A pic of anything is better than nothing? D'oh. No pics I haven't already used. Maybe I should take knitting to work and take pics of it reclining around various places in Melbourne... I do take knitting to work but I only knit on the train and rarely at lunchtime. Warning - political opinion ahead Well what a day it has been. I've read a few blogs and a few comments on blogs about the London bombings. I've watched the news. The Poms have not declared a holy war or crusade upon terror. I gu...

London bombs

Well well well! Terrorist attacks on London, just after it wins the 2012 Olympics. Neatly timed or preplanned to protest the G8 meeting? G8 more likely.... Hope all my Brit friends out there are ok along with your families and friends. 'sfunny, but I expect a much more pragmatic response from the Brits than I do from Americans (no offense to you yankees but your govt is soooo reactive and excitable - like chicken little!). (Wonder how many of you will come back and read my blog in the future now? Sept 11 was a terrible terrible event, but I think the USA govt under Bush has made some extremely bad mistakes in policy and it is something the rest of us have to wear as well.) Knitting news. Not so important. Some has happened. Yes, I have finished one thrummed mitt, except the ends are not yet woven in. The other thrummed mitt needs the thumb to be knitted up. It is on the needles but I haven't quite started yet. My SnB group has started discussing some outings, like knit...
