Another long time between drinks

G'day all! Apologies.  I've been so busy! But I bear news.  Good news. One of the things that has kept me soooo busy is in the mail.  I don't know if he ever looks at my blog so I won't post pics yet, but soon.  Well probably after Easter given even with second top level express mail it isn't guaranteed to get to Oz before the third of April!  Boo hiss to that!  I have no idea why the post in Washington state takes an extra week to get out of the States but it is dreadfully slow from here. So I have a little more time to do other things now that that big thing is out of the way. In more important news, I had my 2.5 year checkup today.  They had forgotten to schedule me, so I am glad I rang last week. Bloods, chest xray, mammo, nurse physician check up (no oncologist as she isn't available until May). Bloods and chest xray are fine. Mammo is fine, but then I get called back in.  They need more shots on the left side. Oh dear. An...

A lottle of very little

G'day all! I am still knitting - see? New socks for me! These are my new socks.  I wish I could find the label of them - I bought them from a vendor at Knit Fit (my local knitting conference!!!  Like four small blocks from me or a bit over 5 minutes!) in November.  I call them Antidote because they are a nice bright pick me up for dull days.  Hooray - found the label - dyed by Deidra MacKimmie, Spinner's Candy, "Sour Skittles Splash." See, there are two! They are quite nice and thick and squishy and I like them quite a lot. I'm knitting a smoke ring with some lovely lovely MadTosh merino. This smoke ring is quite quick to knit up - ok, I've been knitting it on and off over over a week now and I've only done 1.5 repeats (more than what the pic shows) but it is my knitting whilst thinking piece by the computer. Plus I have another sock on the go - I got a whole lot of it knitted in the TWO HOUR LONG queue to get into Comicon on Friday....

Slow slow slow

Image
G'day all! It was a slow week this week.  Had lunch with a friend on Monday then had bucketloads of work to do.  The weather was dull for most of the week (after being brilliant early on Sunday) and well, it was a good week for getting work done.  OK, it took until Thursday for me to make any really good headway - I have way too many things I am trying to work on at once, all for the one project, and I keep overthinking stuff.  But the grey encouraged me to stay home. A hint of the glory to come. Then on Friday suddenly the weather pulled a stunning reversal.  The fog and cloud cleared and the skies washed to a brilliant blue.  It is times like those days that I marvel that I live in this place.  I also decided I had worked four days and needed a break, so I took off to Richmond Beach, a place I almost went to a year ago but the six or seven way stop by the beach confused me enough that I took the wrong direction and went on an adventure (aka ...

Time flies like a banana

Image
G'day all! Actually fruit flies like a banana but you get the gist. I would love to tell you about all the exciting things I've done recently but umm they are so boring that I can't remember them. Quiet is good but meh, I need a little jazzing up.  The weather has been dull again these last couple of days.  It hasn't rained, it has just been grey.  I am not good with grey.  I haven't been anywhere in particular (apart from knit night), I haven't seen anyone (apart from knit night and dinner out last night with various of Nathan's workmates, two of whom are friends before they were workmates, and one girlfriend whom I totally confused, with the help of Q). I have managed to get a bit of crafting done.  I've had a quilt that I thought I might get done before Christmas (hahahahaha!).  It's now Feb and I've finally cleared it off the decks.  It needs its beauty shots done, along with two other little quilts but until the weather cooperates I ...

Australia Day 2013 - a long way from home

Image
G'day all! This is the fourth Australia Day I've had away from home.  I've read the newspapers pontificating on what it is to be Australian, and I'm still not sure what it means, beyond being a person born with at least one parent who is an Australian citizen or a person who has migrated to Australia and become a citizen. I know some of the things that mark me as an Australian.  My accent for one, despite the best efforts of various well-meaning Americans to make me sound like them.  Nup, not happening.  I'll keep my he-yah and summa, my Powl's books, not pow-el's books, thanks all the same.   Some Americans love my accent - I have absolutely NO idea why - when I go back home, I know I sound like the people around me and oh my goodness, I sound like that?  I'll also keep my somewhat off sense of humour, even if I can only indulge it in certain company.  My attitude to health care - after all Australia is a socialist country (I can hear variou...

Glimpses of Portland

Image
G'day all! It occurred to me that I didn't post on Saturday night.  I was in Portland, Oregon, escaping the Eternal Gloom that had wrapped Seattle in its ample bosom (an inversion layer trapped fog and pollutants and it was yucky!).  We took the Amtrak Cascades down there and caught the Coast Starlight back. We are happy because we didn't miss our train. Our bus takes us 100 yards from the station! Livery. Did you know that I love taking the train?  Even if it costs double or quadruple what it would if we drove? Scenery wasn't great - very foggy! I can just sit and watch the scenery go by and knit - if we drive, I have to pay attention all. the. time. because I am The Driver.  DH is The Navigator, except he has an unhandy habit of falling asleep after lunch and occasionally not telling me where I am supposed to go.  That is ok if I am headed for a big city and the signage is good but sometimes I'm headed off whoop-whoop (that's oo a...
