Heavens to Betsy, a finished object (or two)

G'day all! I've had a frantic few weeks.  Okay, couple of months. We've finally reached a detente on the crappy weather here - we're getting glorious summery weather interspersed with mank - pretty typical in June here really. I've been busy making a quilt.  I didn't realise making a quilt could be a full time job and more but boy did I work on that quilt for weeks for many many hours a day.  However, until it reaches its recipient, you can't see the quilt. Instead, I offer you a bit of knitting.  It's a cardigan, believe it or not.  I started off with a bold choice for me - burgundy and gold and white stripes.  And I hated it.  Not me.  Not colours I wear or have stuff to wear under it.  So I changed it, overdyed the gold yarn to make it green, changed the burgundy for blue and SURPRISE!  Colours I will wear happily. This is not an FO ::Rolls eyes:: I've had some quilts done for ages.  I'm having a bit of a love/ha...

Stop dying, people!

Another icon of the SF and fantasy world has fallen.  Death came to Sir Terry Pratchett, one of my favourite authors, and released him from this mortal coil.  Vale, Sir Terry!  You gave so many of us much to think about, and much to laugh at and with.  Thank you. I admit that I am not anywhere near as sad about this as I was Leonard Nimoy.  pTerry was not such a part of my life I guess - I enjoyed many of his books (some I could barely get through - The Colour of Magic and The Light Fantastic were both so thick with puns and laughs that I could not read them, certainly not in public on the train) and his world view is one I share but I guess it comes down to me discovering his work when I was already grown up, and never having a crush on him.  Also Alzheimer's is a mongrel thing, and I share one other aspect of Sir Terry's beliefs. In other news, umm... well what has been happening?  Not that much really - I've been getting outside to enjoy the g...

Oh my, time flies

G'day all! I was sure I had written a post recently but apparently not. MiL and FiL arrive tomorrow night!  It seemed like an age away then a few weeks, then a week and now only a day!  And topping it off nicely, I misread the forwarded message (it is in about 6pt and a grey font) and thought they arrive on Sunday.... so we will be very busy people tomorrow.  Whoops! Rather blurry night shot of current knitalong on Ravelry I've been madly making stuff and trying to get work done and tidying but we have a bit of tidying to go alas.  And cleaning.  And Seattle's garbos (rubbish bin collectors) are on strike so it could get a bit dire, especially at the rate I am going through stuff here and cleaning things out.  It amazes me how much stuff we accumulate so quickly and how much packaging and random odds and ends just build up.  You (I) hang on to things because "they might be useful" or they haven't expired or whatever but they never get chucke...

Brr - thank heavens for an afghan

G'day all! I have been a very naughty and remiss blogger. Ages ago, way back in July, I received the most wonderful gift. I haven't blogged it cos I was trying to get "nice" shots of it. I've given up on getting "nice" shots. Here's a couple of less nice shots that don't show enough of it (and btw, be careful when typing shots - i sits right next to o on the keyboard....). Do I look happy or what? And it came with a cap, which I crammed on my head over the striped hat I was wearing when I opened the box. A big thank you to all my friends at Green Planet Yarn in Campbell, California. I miss hanging out with you guys! I've been much too slow in acknowledging the wonderfulness that you sent me. But I am appreciative! Hardly a day has gone by when I don't warm myself under its woolly goodness. And all of the blocks came with swing tags saying who knitted them. I have to finish getting pics of all the blocks - the weather here has bee...

hair and spit

Image
G'day all! Who would ever think that two of the things I most miss about this whole cancer trip are my hair and my spit? Isn't it funny how things you miss are the normal sorts of things, average, everyday stuff like good health, hair and saliva? Yep, we are getting into the grind now. The side effects are building up as my overall health declines. It is really hard to exercise when one gets this weird indigestion and sheer getting off the couch in the week after chemo is starting to become one's major source of exercise (showering is a daily feat that I am proud of!). I am getting better from the whackiness of earlier in the week - so glad I didn't have to go out shopping or anything until today (apart from Sunday's market excursion) - but oof! I remember happy days of riding my bike around, and if I rode a fair way, feeling tired the next day. Now I get the tired without the joy of riding around! And the spit thing is just plain weird. My mouth is dry-feel...

I care not for this week

Image
Bring me another week! This has not been a good week so far. It started off quite well, with me finding I can survive riding 25km dragging the bike trailer in various states of loading and not suffering badly the next day (unless you count the never ending EATING that followed for the next day and a half!). Then on Tuesday I rolled over in my sleep and managed to rotate my ribs on one side whilst the other side stayed put. I don't know how that is possible but two or three ribs were not sitting where they should be = can't breathe, shoulder whackiness and lower back spasms! Yay me! (Much better after seeing the chiro) Tuesday I had planned to go into town with Nathan and take pics of the jacarandas that I saw on Sunday. I got as far as the chiro (half a mile) and back. Today (Wednesday) I went into town with DH so I could take photos of the jacarandas. Aren't they lovely? I'll let you admire them. Some even had knitted tree-warmers on them! (more pics on flickr ) ...
