Adelaide socks

Image
G'day all! Whilst my laptop is being agreeable (though it is running on the battery currently cos SOMEONE turned off the circuit it is plugged into AGAIN), I thought I would post a few pics of the Adelaide socks. These were my second set of Socktoberfest socks. I am very tempted to call them the sea anemone socks. I think you can guess why. But I've called them the Adelaide socks because that is where I knitted most of them. There and on the way back on the train. More details on Ravelry. I've managed to crash Nathan's computer so thoroughly I can't figure out how to turn it off. It won't respond to anything I've tried, though the button that I think is the on/off switch may not be on/off at all, it might just be the stop playing button. I has a talent, I tells ya. I should be a tester for new programs and stuff cos I can break anything just by running it. Okley-dokley, gotta go read websites whilst this computer is still running. anon!

Reticule, reticula!

Image
G'day all! I have been working on these socks for a while. I finally finished them a bit over a week ago. I thought I'd get the pattern written up by now but nope! I am such a slacker. I call them reticula (from the Latin for "net"). The yarn colour is what happens when I skein up a loooooooong skein to try out some new to me dyes. The yarn is Trekking Natura, and I am not totally sure that I love it, but that goes for most of the trekking yarns. The colours are great but the wool is a bit coarser than I can tolerate. Still it is a pair of socks! Hooray! I've started on the next pair - the Kroy I dyed up. Oh am I excited about this one! If I can repeat, vaguely, the same sort of dyeing on the next yarns I dye up, I will be over the moon! Then there is Icarus, still plugging along, the cardigan I've been commissioned to make, the Christmas socks and jumper for DH, the spinning I want to do, the shawl for my SiL, the red mitts for one of my sisters.......

The Most Beautiful Socks in the World! part 2

Image
G'day again all! OK, I am ready to do battle with the Flickr beast. Can't believe that I didn't grok it before but well that is life! Here are the socks being coy, from the side: And from all sorts of angles including closeups! Sorry to those on dial-up.... The cast off will have to be blogged separately cos I knitted the second one at a knitting meetup and forgot to take pictures as I went. Doh! I'll have to re-create it for you. I'm told it is unewesual and diffrent and mebbe even noice! Details: Toe up version of the Kaibashira sock ( Notions , Ravelry ). I knitted it to the pattern, four less stitches on the sole and then increased sort of in pattern for the gusset. I did my now standard variant on Cat Bordhi's heel-tecture, which is similar to my variant on the Beaudelaire heel created by Cookie A. I played around with the placement of the pattern around the heel shaping - I really wanted to have just one garter row on either side of it but alas my...
