Whatever happened to the Big Apple?

Image
G'day all! We recently spent a week in New York City.  It's mighty convenient that DH's work is based there and they like him to visit because $400 a night for a hotel room is more than I want to pay!  Anyway, something I noticed is all the tourist tat no longer mentions the Big Apple.  It's all I heart NY. These guys made me yummy Pad Thai. So whatever happened to the Big Apple?  Did that advertising campaign got boring? Lots of redwood water tanks! Ornate buildings near the Flatiron May the Fourth be with You! I don't buy tourist tat because I don't like buying tourist tat these days.  Fridge magnets and occasionally a t-shirt that is irresistible are about as far as I go. Anyway, I spent a lovely few days walking the streets of Manhattan between about 25th up to halfway through Central Park.  Over seven days (including a day where we spent six hours on a plane), I walked almost ten kilometres a day.  On a couple of days...

Pink ribbon day

Image
G'day all! It was a lovely day today. Maybe not very warm (though in the car? In the little greenhouse on wheels? Oh my!) but lovely and sunny and warm enough that I could go about in a tshirt. I wore lots of pink and my pink hair drew a number of favourable comments at the hospital (which had a sausage sizzle fundraiser for Pink Ribbon Day, and also two people sprayed their hair pink - they said they would dye it but nah, just sprayed it pink. I've got the real deal on my head and it ain't going to go away quickly!). I forgot to wear my pink ribbon though. I am in two minds about the whole pink thing and breast cancer. In some ways I think it is OTT and in others? Well breast cancer is a bad thing, and raising awareness and raising funds to provide services to women (and the few men) with breast cancer is a good thing. But I sorta feel sorry for people with other forms of cancer who don't have access to people like the breast care nurses who have been so helpf...

Bendi last

Image
G'day all! A week after the fact, I reckon I ought to wrap up the Bendi posts so that I can go back to whining about cancer. I'm feeling a leetle stressed currently. It was on the Saturday morning... The Ravelry BAA breakfast. (Still haven't worked out the baa part - it is a group, etc, but why baa?) It was lovely to see some familiar faces, one of whom won the sock off: with the knee socks that you can't really see in my really bad pic but they are in the top left and have an almost invisible arrow pointing to them. There was also a handspun yarn off too for those of us knitting with handspun (heck, wish I'd worn my pinwheel jacket to it but I changed outfits). I didn't take pics of this cos it involves faces and some people don't want their face online. But then there was the exciting stuff. The lucky doorprize! And here is my bag with its number 42, the third number pulled! This was the table of lusciousness that I could choose from, so I chose the ...

Fluff cleanout

Image
G'day all! Straight up, if you are not into fleece and spinning, this is a dull post. Go play somewhere else, cos it is also picture heavy. I have a *heap* of stuff I want to destash before going back to Australia. Most of this came with me to the USA. Not all. Some of it I can take back with me (but why? I can get more there :-) but I thought it would be nice to share around. Well with a little greenback action to grease the wheels of destashing... Most of the undyed fleece has been flicked and is basically ready to spin. Some hasn't. Scroll down, gentle reader, and see what lusciousness tempts you! Or what luridness, cos I have some of that too. LOL Note that I can't send unprocessed fleece overseas (ie out of the USA). Processed top is fine. I take greenbacks (from locals) and Paypal (at natielthreeoneoneatgmaildotcom). If I have to post the items, I will have to charge postage as well. Oh and colours will vary from monitor to monitor. Oh and it has all b...
