G'day all! Well the knitting fun never stopped whilst I was away. I got my knit mojo working well and truly! Be warned, this is a pretty big post. This month I knitted: 2 pairs of socks 3 sets of fingerless mitts (two child sized) a beanie a cowl a scarflette a small shawl a sleeve of Nathan's pullover and started a colourwork beret Alas I forgot to take pics of the beanie (from my handspun, knitted top down with ribbing on 4mm needles) and the fingerless mitts (one adult sized in cashmere, two kid size in handspun). Plain toe up socks (one with afterthought heel, one with short row heel, both with gussets) knitted in Serenity sockweight yarn by Deborah Norville (50% wool, 25% bamboo, 25% nylon). I used about 80% of the yarn. Note the twiddly bits on the cast off. This yarn is quite soft and didn't irritate my delicate ankles. It cost $3.24 a ball (plus tax). Crikey! G'day all! The days are just flying by at the moment. I have more things to do than you could poke sticks at, even if you had a very large number of sticks! I just sat a library page exam. A library page shelves books at the library. Not the world's most high-falutin' job but I've always loved books, love hanging around in libraries and being paid to do what I do quite often (which is put books in the correct order rather than the way they are on the shelf) would be great! Anyway, I show up with a couple of moments to spare (got a phone call at a *very* bad time!) and show my id and hand over my application. There were over FORTY people applying for TWO positions. Two positions of between 8 and 20 hours per week in four hour shifts, positions paying $11.04 an hour. G'day all! After my swatching fest the other day, I decided to do some more swatches in a larger size to givew me more idea about how the yarn works up in the different patterns. Normally I use a sleeve or the front of a cardi as my swatch but in this case I do not have a pattern . This makes things considerably more exciting and swatches are absolutely necessary. I grabbed the four favourites from my last post and eliminated one pretty quickly in the larger swatch. The leafy type pattern - she gone! I have to say the ribby cables look absolutely fantastic. The problem with such a fitted cardi is that I don't have many fitted tshirts/etc to wear underneath it and I absolutely must have something between me and the wool on my body and any part of my neck that it touches. My arms are made of tougher stuff though if the cuffs grabbed around my wrists or rubs the crease of my elbow, they will complain too. I still like the daisy pattern, no idea why, it just appeals to me. This...

It is ridiculous AM here and I am having one of those coughing fits, y'know the ones you get when you are getting better, the ones that start with the little tickle in the throat and end with various attempts at self-applied lungectomy. Anyway, I found out about this yarn today/yesterday. CPY Mini Mochi . Slow gradation colour-changing yarn. Rainbow coloured. Single ply sockweight - wonder how it would work up as socks and The Scarf? I am helpless in its thrall. I can feel the credit card twwitching like a very scared thing. Drool... anon!

G'day all! I've been finding me some love in the dye pot recently. Mmmm. Sock yarn, how many ways are there to make thee glow? Superwash merino in forestal: Nice and cushy yarn. Mmmm.... 80% merino/20% bamboo (almost sportweight or what Australians call 5 ply) in watercolour: Such a lush, plus yarn! 75% merino/25% nylon in cherryplum: (both sold, thanks!) A different 75%/25% blend in gothica: (both spoken for) All of these have enough yardage in each skein to make a pair of socks for a woman (say size nine or so). All of them are self-striping. All of them are looking for new homes. Since I am just starting up again and still working on finding out which yarn bases are good, I'm underpricing these just to get them to a (hopefully) good home. I want at least USD18 for each skein (note there are two skeins of gothica and two skeins of cherryplum but one skein is enough for socks). We are saving for various things: a) me to go to RHINEBECK!!! b) a car c) a trip home :-) All of those things add up - thank heavens the car should be cheap and if I have an ounce of control, Rhinebeck should be cheaper than the car.... Anyway, here's the goodies I picked up: From Creative Hands, some Rowan and some Noro: (on special, of course! Except the Kureyon which came with a free pattern.) From Purlescence, a cute little gruesome amigurumi book and a totally to die for Grafton batt. I love my rainbow colours even though I am not gay.
