Oh my, summer's here!

G'day all! We are getting a taste of summer here in the Bay area. Oh boy! If you read all of this post, you will see it has addled my brain. I hope it doesn't addle yours too! We went for a walk to the library this afternoon, in the heat of the day. People have this weird idea that the hottest time of the day is when the sun is highest, just like there is some idea that the hottest weather should be around solstice, when the hottest (and the coldest) weather is usually around a month or so after solstice. Can I just say that where I've lived, the hottest parts of the day are the late afternoon, when the sun is slanting and everything's broiled for a good part of the day. Admittedly it was only about 33C but sheesh, it felt amazingly hot with the sun blasting down from a cloudless sky, the heat radiating off the concrete path.... (last time I remember heat like that off a road or path was the first time I went to Bobbin's Nest and it was a 100F day...) This week...

Typhoid Mary

G'day all! I dunno if I should be called Typhoid Mary or Typhoon Mary. We had two glorious days when we got here(see in the pic of our area? The whole area is like this - a gazillion condos that are all alike. I kid you not when I say that "you are in a maze of twisty passages, all alike!" Nathan keeps getting lost and it took me a couple of days to work it all out) one average day and today? Rain rain rain! Rain ALL DAY! The Weather Channel is So Excited about it. Los Angeles is terrified as Stuff is Expected to Fall from the Sky! SF is being blown away by the storm front combined with a jet stream. We are just plain soggy here, but at least our condo is on the second floor so we shouldn't be flooded out. (Plus they have fixed our bath overflow we think as there are new screws on the underbath facing, so downstairs is less likely to be flooded, at least by us!) Plus I have The Plague. DH has a rotten virus, which we think he got from his dad, and he has pass...

Yowzies!

G'day all! I have a feeling I've had better days - Nathan's cold transferred itself to my sinuses overnight (I have this picture of cold goober virions all carrying pillows and sleeping bags marching out DH's nose, across the pillows and up my nose). Nooooooo! I've been so good to them recently and they go and get all snotty on me, literally. It is really annoying cos we have hired a car for the weekend and the altitude changes, well, it is like going up in a plane. No fun! Plus tonight my lovely kitchen knife decided that cutting up cauliflower was not fulfilling enough and neatly skewered the pad of my right index finger! It extracted its tithe of blood I can say! NOOOOOO! Not my main drafting finger! Not my main mouse finger! Not the finger that deals with 7 or so keys on the keyboard. Not the finger that does the yarn throwing! Not the finger that steadies the knife I use at dinner time! It does throb a bit. Nice clean wound all taped up now with a b...

Oxygen returneth

G'day all! The snot-fest here is quietening down, thank heavens! As I can breathe more easily now, I am finding my ability to think returning, well as much as it ever does. It seems that not only have I been suffering from a cold but also from hayfever caused by back burning in the bush leaving a haze of smoke over the city. Me and smoke don't get along so well y'see. DH is all over the shop. I hauled him off to my chiro yesterday. She did all sorts of interesting evaluations, then did a range of adjustments (some of which made him squawk - he's been there when I've been back-cracked but for whatever reason he just thought I was being poked at and prodded, not actually having anything done!!!) and sent him on his way for the time being. He has to go back next week. She says he has a damaged disc, not ruptured, just annoyed and a little torn and that he is guarding it by annoying his right SI joint instead. I know about SI joints - I strained one years ago wh...
