Happy birthday to me!

G'day all! It's my birthday. I was supposed to be back in the States, collecting my birthday presents to myself there. But it has been a very exciting day. Nathan's workmate has moved to a different area with a different boss. Nathan's boss boss has cancelled Nathan's project. The visas we are on are dependent on the specific job Nathan has been doing, not a job in a different area (eg if he moves to 3D graphics, he needs a new visa or to have the visa altered cos the old visa is for document layout and says he is a world expert in that area, which he is). We are supposed to be applying for the new visas for the old, cancelled, project on Friday. So it is very exciting and interesting indeed. It indicates our return to Oz might be a lot earlier than we anticipated. I am starting to plan taking back an almost empty suitcase cos I have plenty of clothes/wool/etc there and I may as well stuff the suitcase full to bring it home. It was Melbourne Cup Day here too ...

Happy Halloween and radio silence

G'day all! Hope that that love it are having fun on Halloween. Me? Very quiet. A night of wrangling websites - we actually wrangled the US govt websites into submission. We have a visa appt for the end of the week. Alas the Qantas site has wrangled me into submission - obviously the gremlins have gotten into it and I have HAD ENOUGH! Six times I've submitted my change request and six times it has rejected it. Egads I am peeved! I've had to call Qantas three times - once they said it will work, once the mobile played up, now hopefully I have someone competent. ARGH! Also, my laptop is dying and I have to use Nathan's laptop to do stuff, only it doesn't have me set up properly, none of my bookmarks/files/etc are on it and O.M.G. I am so over the trackpad! I keep brushing it and it keeps moving to a different part of the screen or a different screen completely. That is sooo annoying! Or I leave the pointer on a link and off we go! yay! Sometimes I'm not...

I have done fair isle!

G'day all! Way back in the dim dark ages when I last had the knitting bug in a big way, I made jumpers. (Not sweaters - sweaters are things like sloppy joes and windcheaters and stuff that you sweat in not that we particularly use the term sweater anyway - jumpers are for looking nice and keeping warm in. Don't ask me why they are jumpers - maybe because you were active in the newly fashionable knitwear of the late 19th/early 20th centuries and you could do things like jumping in them at a time when everyone wore stays and constrictive clothing.) I found my box of jumpers that I can't throw out, but conversely don't want to wear any more. Here's fair isle one: It has *beautiful* full sleeves that gather into the cuff and a turtle neck, as you did in the 80s. It was quite warm I seem to remember. The colours are very 80s too, but then again that is when I knitted it. I probably knitted it with an old standard here - Paton's Totem, though I may have used a pl...

V-day

G'day all! Ask me about the visa process some other day. Gawdsakes, what a waste of time (and nervous energy!). Dunno if they will be issued. Tickets are booked for NEXT FRIDAY! OHMIGAWD! I'll just flip out a bit for a while, ok? Not ready to go yet. May never be ready to go though. I'll have to do lots of Nutmeg belly rubs cos I'll miss that pudding.... Hope the cats don't miss us too much! anon!
