So not good

Image
Still not a g'day sorta day... Bushfires Back 'Ome are very very very bad. I think there is going to be massive loss of human life, let alone critters both native and not. The bush, well the bush burns and usually regenerates, it's fire adapted (cept the rainforesty bits), but it isn't meant to burn as badly as this. The fires hit so quickly noone had much chance to put their fire plans in place and even those who were well prepared had little chance due to the ferocity. Whole towns just don't exist any more. I feel overwhelmed by the immensity of it all. If you want to see some pics, go here or here . And then if you are in Oz and have any spare cash, please donate to the Salvos or the Red Cross or online to the NAB's bushfire fund, like I did. I haven't linked cos the links are all over the local media. There has been knitting in between fussing over the fires. One sock is finished, the next is started. The sock is a bit big for me even over my ...

Nothing like an FO

G'day all! There is nothing like a dame... and this is nothing like an FO! But it is moving right along. I knitted from the second aqua stripe whilst waiting for the bus, sitting on the bus, waiting for the bus, sitting on the bus, waiting for the bus, etc. The yarn is one of the Online stable. As with most of the German/similar sock yarns, I doubt I could wear this sock, so it is just as well that this is an Undeserving Husbandly sock. I have to put in a protest vote. I want a new body. Yep. My protest vote is against myself. I had a very nice, if late, lunch of left over mild curry from Sunday night. It was very pleasant and I gobbled it up, as much as you can gobble anything that involves lots of runny stuff that needs a spoon not a fork. Half an hour later? Bang! Two hours of extreme twitchiness and funny stuff happening around the base of my ribcage. I am starting to wonder if my gall bladder is dodgy, along with my gut and both my shoulders. (Shoulders? R bicep ...

Not really an FO

G'day all! A couple of weeks ago I bought some Mini Mochi. Oh pretty rainbow colours! On Tuesday, I started knitting it up. Since then I've been obsessed. Here's the result. The yarn is really fuzzy. I've been pulling out the hairiest hairs but it is still fuzzy - as fuzzy as various of the sock that I have washed a few times. Will be interesting to see how this sock washes up. Yes, I will make a second one and see if I can wrinkle out some issues with the pattern. At the moment, after doing the setup repeat, it doesn't really follow the chart, just common sense. Biggest problem with the yarn, apart from splittiness due to its singles nature, is The green crocked. Pics are not great but I think you can get the idea of where I tension the yarn and what bits actually hold the needles, at least for my right, throwing, hand. First, I have to finish a fingerless mitten and get cracking on my Feb socks (on Sunday). They will be husbandly socks. Speaking of which,...

A sock!

G'day all! Things continue to get better here, if only the ears would clear up I'd feel quite chipper indeed (particularly the right ear cos it gets awful earache that keeps me upset and ready to start bashing my head against the wall unless I run Tylenol all day and night = not good for me!). Why not see a doctor? It's the weekend! They aren't open. So my major achievements this week have been a) managing to breathe through my nose again b) not bashing my ear off my head, and c) a sock! I cannot believe how hard it was for me to pick this sock up and knit from the gusset increases. The first day I managed to get about 10 stitches done, all the time thinking things were not right. I knitted up to the heel turn, set that up and tried to turn the sock into a short row heel (doesn't work, FYI). Twice. My brain was certainly off with the pixies. By the time I conquered the heel turn, I was starting to feel like I might one day be able to do something more comple...
