Gday all! After quite some driving and sight seeing, like ten or more hours, we finally reached South Australia. We've seen amazing stuff, places we haven't been in years. No pics yet cos I didn't use the phone for pics, just the camera. I was completely freaked out about an hour after dark. The car's high beam headlights picked up some brightly glowing green eyes on the road. Whatever the critter was, it started running AT the car. YIKES! it was not a cat or a dog or a possum (oz version not an opossum). It ran in a weird bowlegged fashion and had a really wide stance. WTF? What sort of hellspawn was coming straight at the car? Like this thing was seriously weird with its funny gait and glowing green eyes. Just as I slammed on the brakes, cos I was going to hit it, I realised it was a koala! Walking, well running straight at the car as if it was greeting a long lost love! I stopped in such a hurry the everything in the back slid to the front.... No pics as the came...

G'day all! Things are better now. Good, eh? We are away for a few days, but this time we have a house sitter! Pray for his cat - he wants to bring him around. I doubt Cheshire will like it, Cheshire being the bully and Nut the scared wussy puss. Our house is starting to look less like a bombsite, though we still have a long way to go. However with some sanding of walls, a little more plasterboard in a couple of places, and some paint and tiles, things should look almost finished! (Except for the issue of the new kitchen cupboards, sink, etc.) Must go get ready to take off. I've paid the bills that need to be paid, I've cleaned up a fair whack of the Stuff on the couch... dishes are yet to be done but we are getting there. Oh, gotta change the sheets on the bed and deal with my dirty washing (hahahaha). Must hide my good cast iron pan too - don't want him cooking any gluten in it. Ah the paranoia of food issues. anon!

G'day all! Remember that old Confucian "blessing" - "may you live in interesting times?" Well I am living them. LOL Gotta laugh, cos otherwise you'd do something stupid. Thanks for all your good wishes. I reckon we are working things out. Distance has certainly not helped. We'll be back in Melbourne tomorrow, earlier in the day than planned. I am sure the cats will be happy to see us, though they've been in good hands. I thought I'd give you a montage of some of the sights I've seen in the last week. Next time I am up here with some free time, I'll be hopping on the ferry - had a lovely, if too short, trip yesterday. I'll be happy to be home, though if Sydney is to be my home for a while well there are compensations to that too! anon!

G'day all! Just a quick one to say I'm home from Sydney. It was lovely to spend time with my husband. We are much happier together than apart, I think. (Blurry us in front of the Endeavour replica. Oh my - what a sad end for the original! Read the link...) I'll be blogging the trip on Victorian, on the move (linkie later when I've blogged). For the nonce, I'll just say that Sydney really turned it on for me - it didn't rain at all on me! (Sydney likes to remind me that its annual rainfall is somewhat more than Melbourne's, despite how it may feel.) Lots of sunshine, though not that warm still but inside I did wander around without a cap on - BLISS! anon!

G'day all! We are back from our trip around NorCal. Very pleasant, thank heavens we only took 800 photos and vids, mostly crufty so I don't have to worry about putting them on Flickr! So I get back and write up my list of classes I would not mind doing at the Sock Summit. After all that planning, poor Steph and Tina are dying cos the site crashed 5 minutes after it opened. I know it is embarrassing but it is NOT the end of the world. Really. It is a hiccup, a bump along the way. It isn't life threatening. Feel the power of knitters, foolish mortal geeks! As DH points out, knitters are supposed to be patient. HA! Impatient, desperate MUST GET THAT PRIZE NOW GEDOUTTAMYWAY! Hmm, from the chat on Ravelry I am unlikely to get into any of the stuff I'd like to do. Ah well. There might be next year but I can also just go and hang out in the market place. I'd like to see the luminary panel on Sunday, unlikely to get into that too by the sounds of it. No, no I do ...

G'day all! We are back, for a few days. Ack. In less than a week we will be cleared out of here. We left and the temps were still getting into the 60s F, what high teens C? OK, some days were only in the noughties C. Today it is -6C or about 18F. There is SNOW on the ground out the back of our place. I guess the kids from the local not-Steiner pre-school won't be rolling down it much any more. At least the dog doo-doo will be obvious now. Anyway, we had a lovely time visiting Chicago overnight then Minnesota for a few days, then Chicago for two nights, then Washington DC, then Chicago.... I think you get the picture. Basically Chicago is a major hub for Amtrak. Frigging cold it was too. Waaaay too cold for me, but I get home and it is waaaay too cold for me here too! Plus I caught a cold and it has headed straight to my sinuses and my throat. I sound like a frog, have the worst smoker's cough you've heard in a non-smoker and often can make very interestin...

G'day all! (disclaimer - feeding ducks bread is Not Good For Them but gosh it is fun, especially for the kids who had the bread. Plus an apology for having a serious addiction to the landscape mode on the camera ;-) Hmm, I am not sure if I can squeeze in any fibre content to this post, so if you want to see fibre, look elsewhere! Last weekend, Nathan and I went up to visit a new friend who is starting up an aquaponics business. (note, if you read the wikipedia article, Nathan does not approve of fully closed-loop systems as toxins can build up in constantly recirculated water.) Aquaponics blends fish farming with hydroponics. The fish provide most of the fertiliser and trace elements for the plants, the plants in turn provide the fish with clean water. The drive was good once we got out of town up beyond Warrandyte . I like getting out of town and into the more rural areas, especially if the driving is challenging.
