A new age

Image
G'day all! Today I am a new age.  I am two years away from a very significant birthday. I am usually coy about how old I am but it is time to own my age.  After all, I have wrinkles and am developing a liking for lavender, as in the smelly herb, not just the colour.  I've always liked lavender as a colour. Still crazed and now with added wrinkles! So happy birthday to me, today I am 48.  I am allowed to be wrinkly and like lavender. Birthdays for me are special, even more so now.  Hooray, I've made it to another birthday!  I'm still here!  See?  I'm waving, over here!  Birthdays are for being made a fuss of.  Birthdays are for doing fun things and having parties.  That is why I'm having my birthday again on Sunday. What did I do today? Clever DH bought me yarn without knowing it. I want more of these but I'm being good. I have lots of yarn to knit. Stuff all, really.  I developed a hankering for a new p...

Waiting waiting waiting

Image
G'day all! We are waiting on some big news.  Waiting is tedious.  I thought we might have some big news before I blogged again but alas, no. Autumn leaves are falling It involves LOTS of paperwork and no it isn't a baby.  You guys should know me better than that....  Anyway, we don't have an answer yet, so I'm not saying anything more about it. This is such a cute little tree. This week has been busy, between the paperwork, trying to get work done, and screwing up my taxes (Oz taxes - I put the wrong figure in the wrong place in the online tax system and couldn't figure out why my numbers were all wrong but of course since it said this I believed it because some days paperwork and computers flummox me so then I had to do a heap more paperwork to try to fix it up and the printer of course ran out of ink and I had to do a special trip to buy more ink, etc, etc....). For some reason this pic isn't rotated.  Odd, eh? Today/tomorrow I turn old...

Hooray, another year older

Image
G'day all! Hmm, maybe I should have given this blog entry the title "Boo, hiss, another year older..." I am currently very much in two minds about this whole birthday thing. a) I am very grateful to have managed to reach another birthday.  Five years ago I assumed that I would reach 80-something.  After the fun of the last couple of years, I'm grateful for every birthday I hit in apparently good health. b) another birthday means I am getting older.  And I already feel like a wrinkly old bag some days, especially next to the lovely young things* that Nathan has as workmates.    Now people say they are not wrinkles, they are experience lines, so oh boy I must be rapidly gaining experience in this game of life!  And I can tell what expressions mainly cross over my face from the patterns that are worn in.  And I'm not fishing for compliments either, cos when people tell me I am beautiful, I know they are fibbing or extrapolating the truth somew...

Farewell 43

Image
G'day all! I am so glad to say goodbye to being 43. I hope the door hits you in the butt on the way out, 43! 42 was fantastic - we travelled a lot in the US, DH's job paid off a nice bit of mortgage, he took me to Europe for my first ever trip to there (fabulous! Would go again in a heartbeat if I had the option and would stay for as long as possible). Then I turned 43. I thought it would be good. We were home, getting our visas for DH's job. The visas turned up 5 days after my birthday. Six days after my birthday, we got a phone call saying DH had been laid off. Hooray and oh noes! It was both good and bad. I was stressed out of my nut for the rest of the month - we had to fly back to the US, break our lease (costing us over $4K), organise to send stuff home (almost $3K), DH gave me a horrid cold that settled in my chest, giving me a swollen lymph node (or so I thought), then we said goodbye to the people and places we had become fond of and flew home. I was so exc...

Happy birthday to me!

G'day all! It's my birthday. I was supposed to be back in the States, collecting my birthday presents to myself there. But it has been a very exciting day. Nathan's workmate has moved to a different area with a different boss. Nathan's boss boss has cancelled Nathan's project. The visas we are on are dependent on the specific job Nathan has been doing, not a job in a different area (eg if he moves to 3D graphics, he needs a new visa or to have the visa altered cos the old visa is for document layout and says he is a world expert in that area, which he is). We are supposed to be applying for the new visas for the old, cancelled, project on Friday. So it is very exciting and interesting indeed. It indicates our return to Oz might be a lot earlier than we anticipated. I am starting to plan taking back an almost empty suitcase cos I have plenty of clothes/wool/etc there and I may as well stuff the suitcase full to bring it home. It was Melbourne Cup Day here too ...

It's all about me and a contest

G'day all! This is my Life, the Universe and Everything birthday. Do you wanna see my main birthday present? Ta-dum! Yep, we sold out. We now have a 2000 Golf GLS. It has a sunroof and A/C and all sorts of doo-dads. It even has: (Just for Risa ) Heated seats - cos we so need them in California! When I saw the buttons, I laughed and laughed cos I know Risa is jealous of Jessalu 's heated seats in her Jeep. (Pics of anything else will have to wait - it's been raining for hours and is now dark. It is a rare day when it doesn't rain on my birthday.) I made me a heap of these for my birthday gathering yesterday (chocolate lamingtons and drop dead gorgeous pink/jelly lamingtons - YUM! I can see I will get fat eating pink lamingtons). Many thanks to those who showed and for the rest of you, where were you? I got me a haircut yesterday. First style cut in about 8 years. Here's the before: And two afters: See, it's much shorter! It must be my birthday!

Image
G'day all! Just a quick one - it must be my birthday cos I won the Dutch lottery SIX times in less than an hour! Here's a little fleecey eye candy for your Monday (or Tuesday for those who are truly living in the future on the other side of the dateline). Mmmm, fleece drying on the sweater racks.... CVM, cormo, CVM. (insert Homer-esque donut drool here) Back in a bit, or tomorrow, with goodies! anon!

Even More Birthday Stuff

Image
G'day all! I thought I should abuse your eyeballs with some birthday presents. Presents-wot-I-didn't-organise-myself. Surprise presents! The lovely mrspao sent me some goodies all the way from England: yummy choc-rice things and some Hipknits sock yarn in a colourway that is very me. Nathan says "too pale" but those pale colours look good on me. And my blogless friends M and M in Oz got a bunch o' people to contribute to rectifying a Great Problem - can you tell what it is from this pic? Oh and it was not just one block of chocolate - the big pic shows that I have a 14 week supply! However, under stress it will probably last about 10 weeks. My *Very favourite* chocolate cos I have never poisoned myself with it, though with that many blocks I probably could if I tried to eat it all at once 8-) Lovely prezzies! I really appreciate the thought you guys put into the things you sent me :-) Now for a pic taken last night at a friend's house. He has two lovel...
