Yarnivorous

G'day all! I thought I should do a knitted finished object post - I've been knitting like crazy for the last couple of months. I've been taking part in a knitalong my favourite group on Ravelry (RemRants), Summer of Lace 2016.  I guess it isn't so much a knitalong where you all do the same pattern as a group encouragement thing where we show off what we've been knitting and it should have some lace in it. A couple of weeks ago I took some of my new knits down to the beach and did a photo shoot of them and a quilt I finished months and months ago. First, for your delectation and delight, we have Dawn : Convenient driftwood, and colours match the shawl! G'day all! So we've made it to the end of May. May is not my favourite month of the year. Too many deaths of people that matter to me have occurred in May. My father at the start of May, my mother near the end of May, others that have passed on too. I wonder what Mum would've thought of the shawl I knitted this month. I spun the yarn. I chose the Echo Flower pattern . I started knitting. And I kept knitting and knitting and knitting row after row, repeat after repeat of the flower pattern Until I thought I should swap to the border pattern. (I am glad I did swap over then - I don't think I had enough yarn for another repeat of the flower pattern.) I nupp ed until I was done. Then I soaked and blocked the shawl. I think Mum would be surprised that I can knit lace. She told me not to knit it when I was younger. Much younger. She didn't think I had the patience or the counting ability/concentration. G'day all! I am pretty sure I have not blogged this. I better not have! It didn't show up when I loaded my own blog.... (Talk about chemo brain - I just had to go investigate the funny hissing noise. Turns out it is the onions I put on to brown on the stove (obviously in a saucepan!). Oh. At least it wasn't a leaking hose, which is what I thought it was at first! Maybe I need my ears checked.) So this little shawl has been doing the rounds recently on Ravelry. I thought I would try my hand at it. Calais , by Judy Marples. I had some sock yarn sitting around (doesn't everyone???) that had been part knitted into a sock. The hand of the yarn as a sock just was not doing it for me. It felt rather cottony but wrong for cotton too. I dyed it up hmm, three years or so ago. It was a test skein that I never really like. Looks pretty good as this little shawl though! G'day all! Am I the only one who is knits along a lace pattern that you know off by heart cos you've done it enough to remember it, and then you look and realise that suddenly you decided to make up a new pattern? Here's an example. The pattern says k2, sl1-k2tog-psso, k2, yo, ssk, yo, k1, yo, k2tog. So why do I find myself doing this: k2, sl1, k2tog, yo, k2, yo.... It does rather ruin the pattern, and it is not as if I've done it once. Nope, about every three or four rows I find I am putting in a rogue yo and not doing a double decrease. Then on the next row I just look at it and wonder why oh why am I being a doofus? When it works out, it looks pretty good: Plus I've been holding out on you! Not only have I been rather busy trying to catch up on blogs and doing stuff at home and trying to keep DH going, but I've finished two largeish items in the last two weeks and I have not shared them! Then there's the one that I won't share until I've done...
