G'day all! Time is slipping through my fingers.  How did it get to be near the end of the day already?  How can I not have blogged for all of August?  How can it be September already?  Signs of autumn are showing up everywhere - stressed trees are losing their leaves, non-stressed trees are starting to go orange and red.... No, not yet, I'm not ready! My garden is going bonkers but I'm starting to worry that I won't get many more tomatoes ripened.  I've got many many green tomatoes, like I'd say at least 20 kilos/50 lb of the things are still green.  The weather has been pretty average the last week or so, though it is meant to become a bit sunnier now. Thriving, half-fallen over tomato Big tomato! Little plant, many capsicums/chillies/bell peppers Eggplants! I would like my eggplants to keep producing/start producing.  The little finger sized ones have been going great guns but the bigger ones have only really just start...

Summertime

G'day all! Long time no post.  I have the nasty feeling I didn't post because I'm a bit stupid and got too hot. Yes, it got hot in Seattle.  I seem to remember saying last time that there are two things I never thought I'd say in Seattle: 1) It's too hot, and 2) We need rain. Well I have a third thing to say: 3) Too much sun. The tomato and the eggplant at the ends of two raised beds are going great guns, as is the tomato by the house.  They are setting fruit like crazy.  I've got hopes of even getting one ripe eggplant, which will equal the record of anything I've grown in Melbourne. This isn't meant to be a shot of my bust but it does show how tall my huge tomato is. BTW, that is not a euphemism. But the rest?  I had to go and get shade cloth for the vegie patch to get things growing.  I know that sounds absurd but they were in full sun from about 8am to 7pm and apparently between that, the northerly wind and the complete lack of rai...

G'day all! Everything seems to be so very busy at the moment.  I'm running from one thing to the next. Currently I am really glad that I decided to shut the windows box down tonight instead of sleeping it.  It is doing updates and they seem to be doozies!  It's been running flat chat for about 15 minutes.  Might not help that it is running over wireless, oops.  If it did this when I was trying to work on it, and it has done updates and happily shut itself down when I've gone off to the loo or to get some water or just for a quick break, I'd be peeved! The gas meter looked lonely I have installed four different hydrangeas in the garden.  It is missing hydrangeas, though it has one rhododendron and four lavender bushes.  Now it is no longer missing hydrangeas. Now it has three hydrangeas near it. I may have to prune them. This one has lovely autumn leaves And this one has an iris buddy, also a new transplant It is getting to b...

Moving right along

G'day all! Lots of things are happening around here at the moment. The garage gnome. DH and friends have been slaving on the garage.  Seriously.  Last weekend two different lots of people came round and got totally soaked working in the pouring rain and helping reframe and roof the garage.  We really really appreciate their help!  Today another friend came round and pretty much all of the framing is done, only the (short) north wall needs to be done at this point, then we can close in the walls again, put in new windows and doors and do the final, proper roof rather than the temporary plywood one... and get it inspected and put insulation in and then plasterboard and and some flooring....  Only a little bit of work to go!  LOL All of this bit now is framed up with the new trusses. It is good to see progress being made.  More than good, exciting! When I said lots of rain, we got this in less than 24 hours... I finished my qui...

Fourteen hundred posts!

G'day all! It is a month away from my eighth blogiversary, and I've just discovered I've made 1400 posts (including this one).  I've been pretty slack over the last year otherwise we would have had 1500 posts by now - I've had other things distracting me, like some stories that must be written NOW and moving and settling into a new place, again, and just being me. For those of you who have been here from the start, congratulations cos you've put up with a lot of blathering - you must be suckers for punishment!  But I like you anyway :-)  For those who are newer, nice to see you, don't be shy - now that Blogger's commenting system allows replies of sorts it is much easier to reply to comments if I ever remember to do so! We are in the countdown to my parents in law visiting at the end of the month.  I have lots to tidy away - being multicraftual means that I have plenty of things out that really should be tidied away.  We need to make a nice space f...
