Another day at the craft show

Image
G'day all! Thanks for the enthusiasms over the dress. I like it! I just wish there was a Sew Serendipity Flickr group. (Maybe I should ask permission to make one?) I went back to the craft show today. I wanted in particular to do a certain class that I hadn't realised was happening on Wednesday. Too late! All booked out. Sniffle. But I still went to a number of excellent talks (applique, still dead skeered of applique!), using precuts and nifty templates (bought said templates, only $20, have to try them out now!), talks on colour by Reece Scannell and umm Kathy Doughty from Material Obsession (who I found out are in Drummoyne now and I've been walking within a hundred metres, or driving TWO DOORS AWAY, of the shop and never known! If you follow the link, I walk past the little ferry symbol at the bottom of the map or if I have a car, I go around the roundabout by their shop on my way to (ahem) Spotlight...). (Alas, we got a bit distracted during Kathy's talk...

Knitting redux 2009

Image
G'day all! Happy New Year! Happy New decade! I thought last year was a fairly fertile knitting year but it appears I knitted no more items than the year before, according to Flickr. 39 in 2008, 39 in 2009. However, there are four or five items for which I have no photos. So that makes 43 or 44 FOs. Admittedly some of those items were, for example, two pairs of fingerless mitts for children but I think a pullover for Nathan well and truly balances that ;-) I've already started on this year's knitting. I'm knitting a hat in some yarn that is new to me - Sirdar's baby bamboo . I thought this might be a good yarn for chemo hats but it feels vaguely prickly against my wrist and neck. It might settle with a wash. Ah well, I'll find out sooner or later I guess! The weather has been totally amazing here over the last 24 hours or so. A big change blew through at around 9pm, bringing a fantastic natural light show and a dumping of rain. 25mm (an inch) at our curr...

My needles are on fire!

Image
G'day all! Help! My needles are on fire! I am not going to show you all the things I am working on at the moment - some are so embryonic that there is no point (eg how exciting is stocking stitch?). You'll have to trust me that I am enamoured particularly of one but the others are pretty darned fantastic too :-) I've finished most of the knitting for the Mystery Item in purple/blue. I now have to find suitable buttons for it - I think I need ones that match it precisely or are clear. I don't want buttons that stand out on it cos I think the item should be the star of the show not the buttons. Doesn't the (back of the) blocked lace look pretty held up against the light? So after I get buttons and seam the shoulders, I can knit the button bands, put the arms on and voila! A new spring cardi! (Does that tell anyone what it is yet?) This scrumptious little ball of handspun merino bamboo yarn is on its way to becoming something absolutely fantastic . Or at least ...
