Yarnivorous

G'day all! So many things to show you and no pictures of any of them! It isn't even me being slack. Y'see our flat has no outdoors area *at all*. Nothing. Nada. It faces south, which means in the southern hemisphere, it doesn't get much natural light, especially with three enormous trees blocking whatever sunlight bounces off the flats next door. I can't take pics outside because the only flat areas are either covered with possum poo (mmm, anyone for worms and all sorts of interesting bugs?) or are under the washing lines. (The washing lines here have some of the best views! Sydney skyline views! I sometimes think I'll go sit out there and do some work, using my mobile for internet on the laptop but a) I need a seat to sit on and b) mobile's 3G network is verra verra verra slow.) G'day all! Just a quick one to say I'm still alive! Though tonight I am feeling fairly average - I think I've been doing Too Much for Too Many Days. Or maybe I've caught the stomach bug that is going around. Anyway, it will be an early night for me! I have so much to tell you and show you and tonight? Not happening! On Saturday I went to an open studio for a small hand-printed fabric place. It was very interesting and I bought some material. Then I dropped in on one sister and we went to visit our other sister. Sunday I went to the farmers' market, then to Spotlight. Oh dear. They had eggplant coloured yarn that was 80 CENTS a ball. Nice yarn too. 100% wool. Plus some of my favourite baby yarn for $1.60 a ball. Note that both these yarns usually retail for between $4-7. Sigh. So much for my yarn diet. G'day all! Thank you all for the kind messages of support. I'm still a bit freaked but I'm still here, just been realllly busy! Keeping busy is the only way I know how to deal with worry stress. (I am learning meditation which I am assured is excellent.) So I've been knitting madly on my new FO Summerflies , which I finished just in the nick of time for July, and I've been spinning up some very pretty brightly coloured yarn, and am prepping fleece for a shawl I have to knit by mid September (my bad! but the fleece is lovely and hopefully the FO from it will be wonderfully soft), and we've been out quite a bit. We went for a drive up to Warburton on Thursday and yesterday was free public transport day after a spectacular PT fail on Wednesday, so we tooled around the city and caught the tram to the spinning guild and Brunswick and bought fabric and stuff.... I have to share pics from our travels and talk about them too but I am run off my poor sore puffy foo...

G'day all! The last few days have been totally hectic! In my usual way, I decided to overcommit myself in getting things make for Nathan's birthday. Today is the first day in ages, or so it feels, that I don't have a deadline looming over me. (Nope, only got some stuff to mail and then I have NOTHING that IMMEDIATELY has to be done!) As usual under such circumstances, I feel a bit flat. All that work, now it is done and what do I have to show for it? Umm, well.... This and this and this Want to see more pics? G'day all! I seem to be very busy at the moment. I am certainly finding plenty to occupy my days. Today I briefly admired the material I cut up yesterday for the quiltalong. Can I just say that I am in awe of anyone who can make a quilt whilst looking after kids/dads/family and holding down a job? The amount of time needed, the space, the sharp tools... It took me a good couple of hours to cut out all of these. Admittedly along the way I had to argue with myself about what to do about this sort of thing - look at the line of dots in that folded in half fabric! The edges and the centre are not exactly in line. This seems to be very common with printed material. I presume the middle gets left behind a bit when the fabric travels through all the rollers. Then I took the bus to one of my favourite op shops. I was very bad. I bought more stuff. I shall show it off when I have it dry (and can take pics in daylight). I rode to another op shop and bought more stuff, including a Fo...

G'day all! We are getting a taste of summer here in the Bay area. Oh boy! If you read all of this post, you will see it has addled my brain. I hope it doesn't addle yours too! We went for a walk to the library this afternoon, in the heat of the day. People have this weird idea that the hottest time of the day is when the sun is highest, just like there is some idea that the hottest weather should be around solstice, when the hottest (and the coldest) weather is usually around a month or so after solstice. Can I just say that where I've lived, the hottest parts of the day are the late afternoon, when the sun is slanting and everything's broiled for a good part of the day. Admittedly it was only about 33C but sheesh, it felt amazingly hot with the sun blasting down from a cloudless sky, the heat radiating off the concrete path.... (last time I remember heat like that off a road or path was the first time I went to Bobbin's Nest and it was a 100F day...) This week...

G'day all! i am still alive and still kicking. The easter egg on my head has subsided to a very small sore spot now (and I am sure that DH will gleefully tell me my poor noggin is all pretty shades of purple and green - it was just bright angry red). Gosh, imagine I could've been the first person to fracture their skull on a hand-drier. Or maybe not. Anyway, I have been extremely busy! We are starting to clear out all the stuff we will never use. I should say *I* will never use. I've brought six large boxes of Stuff down to two small and one medioum box. I am taking a whole heap of material and clothes to the op shop today. The material is mostly stuff that I got from a place that did offcuts of sheeting and upholstery fabric. I realised that if I have not made anything with it in the last 8 years, I am unlikely to do anything with it now. The clothes and shoes are not ones I will take with me to the USA so why keep them? For someone who does not like high heels,...
